Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has
urged President Goodluck Jonathan to
beware of Abia State Governor TA
Orji. The Abia governor returned to the
People’s Democratic Party,PDP after a
brief romance with the All Progressive
Grand Alliance, APGA
Governor T A Orji joined APGA after his
relationship with former Governor Orji
Kalu broke down irretrievably. The
governor who was elected on the platform
of Kalu’s Progressive People’s Alliance,
PPA recently decamped and joined APGA
before returning to PDP
Last week Governor Orji was in Oke -
Mosan ,Abeokuta where he met with
former President Olusegun Obasanjo
chairman, Board of Trustees, BOT
.During the meeting Obasanjo expressed
his joy with Orji’s return to the PDP.
But newsdiaryonline sources revealed
that Obasanjo has afterward cautioned
President Jonathan not to trust Gov
Orji.One source said ``Obasanjo’s advice
to Jonathan is that if T A Orji could
betray Orji Kalu,he can also betray
you. Such a man even betray God’’
Perhaps Obasanjo said so conscious of
the dogged battle which Kalu fought to
install TA . The Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission ,EFCC had dragged TA
to court on grounds of alleged
corruption and he was in prison during
the 2007 elections. But through the
efforts of Kalu, TA even while in prison
emerged as governor.
Even the last minute efforts by Obasanjo
regime to stop TA’s inauguration
failed. Perhaps in his thinking, OBJ
expects TA to be loyal to Kalu. T.A’s
aides however accuse Kalu of making
life too difficult for the governor as
he was practically strangulated. But
having dumped Kalu, OBJ appears
unimpressed, that is why he is urging
Jonathan not to trust the governor in
the run up to the 2011 polls.
Obasanjo’s advice to Jonathan which was
obviously done privately runs contrary
to what he said during TA’s visit to his
Abeokuta residence that he was happy
that TA has returned to PDP. The
chairman , BOT also commended the
governor for his leadership qualities.
TA is one of the South East governors
who have unanimously agreed not to back
candidate yet until they are certain
about which candidate will address the
issue of Igbo marginalization better.
