Community Drags Osun State Government to Court over Alara stool

Sefiu Ayanbimpe,Osogbo  Newsdiaryonline   Thur Oct 14,2010

Following the recent death of His Royal Highness, Oba Sunmonu Omolaoye Ekundayo, Adunmori 11, the Alara of Ara in Egbedore Local Government area of Osun State which led to the vacancy in the stool , effort to fill the stool is in top gear by the next ruling house.

The next ruling house that is Ajadi Ruling House to fill the stool according to the order of rotation as contained in !979 declaration, has dragged Osun state government before an Osogbo High Court over what it perceived as cheating of highest order.

The state Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the State commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Egbedore Local  Government chairman , its Secretary and  Head of Local Government Administration and Chief Amuda Lawal Olaosebikan of Agbetusi Ruling House have been sued.

They alleged that the government has written the Agbetuyi Ruling House which is number one on the list of rotation to produce the next Alara instead of Ajadi Ruling House which is in number five and next to the immediate past monarch of the community.

In the motion on notice filed by the applicant, Prince Emmanuel Oladejo Ilufoye on behalf of Ajadi Ruling House, the ruling house is seeking an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from selecting, appointing and approving Chief Olaosebikan as the new Alara of Ara.

In the suit no HED/17/2010 filed at Ede High Court by Barrister Abiodun  Olaide on behalf of the the Ajadi ruling house, the plaintiff averred that after the demise of the past Alara, Oba Sunmonu Omolaoye Ekundayo  from Adumari Ruling House, it is the turn of Ajadi ruling house to present  the next Alara.

Prince Ilufoye while relying on the 1979 chieftaincy declaration however expressed disgust that rather than obey the rotation order as contained in  the declaration, the defendants had in a letter dated 25th August 2010  set in motion machinery to appoint another Alara from the Agbetusi  Ruling House.

Also speaking with Newsdiaryonline  Correspondent in Osogbo , Prince Akinola Omolaoye enjoined the state government to follow the order of rotation as in 1979 declaration so as to avert crisis that may follow if the government does  otherwise.

Omolaoye who is the son of immediate past monarch is of the opinion that after the exit of his father, the community expected that it is turn of Ajadi Ruling house to produce the next monarch but to their dismay recently, the Government wrote Agbetuyi ruling House to produce the next occupant of the stool.

He said that Agbetuyi family is a controversial and contentious Ruling House but maintained that the people of the community are law abiding citizens and  they would not take law into their hands.
