Weekend is organising
a one-day peace conference with the theme “Towards Sustainable
Peace in the North”.
The conference holds on Thursday, December
1, 2011 and is expected to be declared open by the
Vice-President, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, with notable
personalities from the region expected to deliver papers on
various sub themes.
A statement signed by the company’s Chief
Operating Officer, Malam Ali M. Ali, said the conference is
coming against the backdrop of recurrent conflicts and crises
that have stalled the growth of the region of late and
especially with the advent of militia groups.
Among presenters of papers and speakers are
Niger state governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, former
Executive Director, National Council of Arts and Culture, Dr.
Sule Bello, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Sanusi
Lamido Sanusi and the Nigeria Labour Congress Vice-President,
Comrade Issa Aremu.
Others are the Lagos state Governor,
Babatunde Raji Fashola, his Borno state counterpart, Alhaji
Kashim Shettima and the Country Director of ActionAid, Dr.
Hussaini Abdu.
The conference will be chaired by the former
Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa state University, Professor Adamu
Baikie and will hold at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Abuja.
