The first account:A Nigerian deportee from Austria
turned to a punching bag-Report by Uzoma Ahamefule
After
critically analyzing the numerous text messages and the
telephone calls I have got, the e-mails and comments of people
in the internet and the interest this case has generated from
every part of the world and at all levels of life, more so,
after bombardment of e-mails from those who said that they had
read the article from Nigerian Punch in Nigeria and Sahara
reporters in the internet, I cannot wait any longer than to
quickly squeeze out time from my tight schedule because I am
obliged to correct one impression and to address some questions
raised by my readers.
I want to
emphatically state that I never said that Her Excellency Mrs
Maria Laose as a person abandoned Peter Uche Obi, because she
had not been a member of the embassy as at the time this
incident had occurred. She started duty officially on 27 June
2011 as the new ambassador to Austria, while the brutality of
Peter Uche Obi had occurred on 19 January 2011. Therefore, there
was no way she would have abandoned Peter Uche Obi and should
not be made a scapegoat by a person or group of persons. Her
Excellency was copied like some of the dignitaries in my wisdom
I had considered very relevant to the subject matter. I also
want to add that after my interaction with Her Excellency via
e-mail and telephone I am pained that she is in the midst of
this brouhaha. My discussion with her revealed a mother with
passion and feeling of concern for Uche Peter Obi’s ordeal as
she had immediately gone into action of trying to know what had
happened as soon as the news had gotten to her even when she had
not officially received her own letter, which was for me very
impressive. If this was how our ambassadors had reacted to
issues affecting Nigerians the ears of the deaf would have
opened. Therefore, I pray that God will grant Her Excellency
wisdom and strengthen her in her new assignment. You are welcome
to Austria Her Excellency, may this fire in you keep on burning,
and by the special grace of God you will be successful because
you started well. Her Excellency, Nigerians and the world are
expecting that justice is done on this issue.
However,
because Her Excellency Mrs Maria Laose was not the ambassador as
at the time of this incidence does not take the fact away that
somebody was in charge when this drama was going on. Who was
that at that time at the embassy? Why did the person decide to
neglect his or her duty by ignoring the Nigerian that was said
to be in pain? Who was that that did not care to find out how
the name of Nigeria as an entity was bruised? That person is not
worthy to work as an ambassador or in any place at the embassy.
According to
Mike Murdock “You will never correct what you are unwilling to
confront”, therefore I want a change and it cannot happen if I
am folding my hands. I know that I have a lot of enemies because
of my social stand but it is not important of what they think
about me because I do not need many friends, I need only those
that will be helpful to me and my struggle. Anybody who is
everybody’s friend is a fool. Those people that are
taping my phone
conversations, trailing me on the streets or hacking into my
mail address or have even sent insulting mails to me, be careful
before the wrath of God falls on you because I am in contract
with my God and he can never abandon me. Be warned! I have made
an official complaint to the police today (21.072011) about
strange happenings in my life since I reported the case of Peter
Uche Obi.
So many
people want to know what Peter Uche Obi did that led to his
deportation. According to available reports, the Austrian
authority said that his asylum process was finished, and he was
not needed in their country again. So he was not deported
because he had committed any crime. Another unfortunate
statement from my readers was that they said that Peter Uche obi
must have been treated cruelly probably because he had behaved
like an animal. Again, it should be clear to us that there can
never be a reaction without an action. Therefore, let us be very
objective and take sentiments away. We should conclude here that
Peter Uche Obi was a security risk to other passengers and that
was why he was tied to his seat. Good, since they had succeeded
in wickedly tying him to his seat, if the aim was only to secure
the aircraft from danger as some people had argued, then why
beat him? Why turn him into a punching bag? Why? Why abusive and
provocative words? Whatever that is good for the
goose they say is also good for the gander. As long as
this kind of treatment is not good for a white person it is
equally not good for Obi. For
whatever reason, whether he was an armed robber, a drug dealer
or that he killed somebody by European or Austrian standard it
is not allowed that he should be treated with such high degree
of cruelty. That is what makes the difference between Africa and
Europe or third world countries and developed countries. If
Peter Uche Obi was an European his government would not only
investigate his beating but also they
would investigate to find out if his tying to his seat
had been done with the intention to harm him, which if you ask
me here I will concur with Obi that it was done with bad intent.
He said that he was wickedly tied and that at a point his body
started swelling up that he had thought that he would die as he
had remembered the death of Marcus Omofuma who had died at the
exact circumstance in 1999. He said that he was praying inside
his heart that God should not allow them (the police) to
remember to cover his mouth and nose even though he said that he
had told them continuously that he was not an animal and that
they should untie him.
What a horror!
I was used
to visiting prisons mostly Mondays and Wednesdays until early
last year when it became too much for me and I had to stop. The
experience I made was terrible and better imagined than
experienced. So many young Africans are languishing in various
prisons across Europe today because of the sins of our so-called
leaders. Because of the carelessness of our leaders and their
corruption we are forced to become “Adoro’s” in countries where
we should be treated like kings because we are Nigerians but
unfortunately the situation is the reverse of what it should be.
So sad!
As long as
African leaders do not care about their citizens, as long as the
death of Nigerians in a foreign land continues without the
federal government of Nigeria showing any interest of redress
and as long as ethnic background remains the yardstick of
knowing who gets assistance from the ambassadors or their
ministers the molestation and killing of innocent Nigerian
citizens will continue in a foreign land with impunity. As long
as our so-called leaders continue to enrich themselves through
corruption and continue the practice of nepotism they will never
have the moral right to stand against any western world because
that is where they hide their loot and anything that will bring
confrontation they avoid it. They can sacrifice you just to save
their faces before their secrets are exposed. Until we all are
ready to do something for a positive change to take place in
Nigeria, until we are ready to confront our leaders and demand
an explanation of their actions, until our leaders recognize
that other citizens are as important as their children, until
that day the treatment meted to Peter Uche Obi will continue to
be a child’s play. And it seems that we did not learn anything
from the death of Marcus Omofuma. Very painful! Just last week a
Nigerian by name Steve Uhegbu was shot dead by his landlord in
Germany.
The struggle
for total emancipation of my fellow young Africans from the
hands of police brutality in foreign lands, the cruelty,
untimely and challengeable deaths of my fellow young Nigerians
in Europe and respect for black skin is a struggle for which I
am prepared for the worst to make my own little contribution.
Please pray
for PETER UCHE OBI to get justice and also remember me and my
children in your prayers.
Thank you
all for your e-mails, calls and sms, I appreciate.
PETER UCHE
OBI’S COMPLAINT MUST BE INVESTIGATED AND JUSTICE DONE.
