The Nigeria postal Services would soon establish an ultra
modern mail sorting centre
in Ogun State. The Post master general of the federation,
Ibrahim Muri Baba
disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Governor Gbenga
Daniel in Abeokutarecently. Muri Baba specifically asked the Ogun State
Government to make land for
the project available within the precincts of the Ogun
International Airport whose
construction is expected to begin soon. Muri Baba says the
location of the centre
close to the airport would facilitate easy evacuation of
mails and their transfer to
other parts of the country since Ogun is artery to the
country. The postmaster
General says the present system where mails meant for other
parts of the country are
sorted in Lagos was cumbersome. He said the Airport located
around the Sagamu axis
suits NIPOST expedite mail delivery projects. NIPOST
according to him would also
take advantage of the Deep Seaport that is located in the
Olokola Free
Trade Zone area.
Governor Gbenga Daniel in his remark assured the postmaster
general of the readiness
of his administration to ensure quick delivery of the
Airport project. He disclosed
that a number of multinational companies and other
industrial concerns had shown
interest in the project. Governor Daniel said his government
would jumpstart the
construction with the runway and the terminal building while
private sector firms
would take charge of the additional facilities.
The Governor also directed the Director General of the
Bureau of Lands and Survey,
Surveyor Gbenga Ogunnoiki to make land available for the
development of the new mail
centre.
