Revealed:Workers  face  Hard  Times  As  lingering   Power Failure  Hits NNPC  Headquarters

Newsdiaryonline     Mon Nov 15,2010

Newsdiaryonline learnt that this Sallah break may be providing some respite for the workers at the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation ,NNPC.The offices at the headquarters  have become what  has been called  ``a virual hellhole’’ as persistent power failure has made the offices barely habitable for the workers. It was learnt that that workers have been facing hard times for nearly a week now.

``Some of the staff come out of their offices to fan themselves manually. The way things are, you know the offices aremeant to be habitable with air conditioner and the airconditioners have not been working for nearly one week’’ a source told newsdiaryonline.

It could not be confirmed whether the power failure  had anything to do with the Labour strike or if a fundamental problem is at the heart of the strange power failure which remained unresolved up till today.

Before this saga, NNPC had been at the centre of insolvency saga which many believe  led to the eventual ouster of Remi Babalola the esrstwhile minister of state Finance. He had told the world that NNPC was insolvent and incapable of meeting its financial obligations.Levi Ajunoma, NNPC Group Corporate Affairs manager was the first to debunk the minister’s claim on NTA.

The Federal Government swiftly denied Babalola’s claims .And months later, Babalola ``resigned’’ from his post as minister.

Attempts to hear from Ajunoma on the latest power fiasco at the NNPC headquarters failed. He failed to respond to an sms sent to his number Monday night.
