Punch launches recharge cards for mobile service (First in Nigeria)
 Culled from Facebook                            Wed.May 20,2009

Punch Newspapers has today (Wednesday) launched recharge cards for its mobile service.

The recharge cards, similar to those used by the GSM operators, complement existing payment methods. At present subscribers can pay cash through all First Bank branches, or use ATM and Visa cards for the service.

The recharge cards are already available in Punch offices in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

According to a statement by the Executive Director, Publications, Mr. Azubuike Ishiekwene, “the decision to introduce the recharge cards was to bring Mobile Punch closer to subscribers. Many subscribers who may find other payment methods a bit difficult can now log onto our new service with the ease with which they top up or recharge their pay-as-you-go GSM phones.”

The statement said a growing number of young and working class people are already subscribing to Mobile Punch, and that the introduction of recharge cards will improve access and popularity of the service. An advert in the Punch between Wednesday last week and Monday, called for interested distributors to apply for the recharge cards.

The recharge card, with the Punch logo, comes in only one unit of N1,500 each, the exact access fee for 30 days. It guarantees the subscriber access to the exact digital version of the print, delivered to their phones in a user-friendly format. Subscribers to Mobile Punch also enjoy free access to the e-paper, which is not available online.

Unlike news alerts that provide only headlines or teasers and which have become common offering, Mobile Punch gives subscribers the full details of stories and features as they appear in the day’s print version, with updates at least once daily.

Mobile Punch is available to mobile phone subscribers on the three major GSM networks – MTN, Glo and Zain.

The service, which can be accessed by consumers in the country and abroad, is available to subscribers who have Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) mobile phones.

Punch said customers whose current subscription through cash, ATM or Visa card payments is still valid will continue to enjoy their service, adding that the recharge cards were introduced as an extension of the existing payment platforms.

For assistance, subscribers may call: 07029020202–3; 01-7450832–3; 01-7450860; or email: helpdesk@)punchng.com. The help desk will be open between 8am and 5pm, Mondays to Fridays; 8am – 12 pm on Saturdays; and 10am – 2pm on Sundays.
