OBJ-IBB Feud :Good for Nigeria, says Retired
Officer Newsdiaryonline Sun Aug

A retired military officer has told
Newsdiaryonline that the mudslinging
which broke out last
week between Generals Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida-
who are both ex
presidents- is good for the country.
According to the officer who did not want
his name in print, the hitherto apparently
cosy relationship
between the two was not in the interest of the country.
But he failed to give details of
why he made this assertion.He
also said that
Babangida had deferred for too long to Obasanjo
and that is why, in his view, Obasanjo has gotten away
with a lot of things. So, he thinks
"their quarrel is good
for the country".
He accused Obasanjo of perfecting
diversionary tactics to deflect attention from himself each time
he is on the spotlight.
”Obasanjo led a very corrupt government. But each time the nation
is seeking to expose the rot in his regime, he springs up a
diversionary strategy.Look at the Haliburton scandal :after the
details came out we all saw Obasanjo travelling to western
countries telling the world that President Jonathan cannot fight
corruption. That was just to make himself look good at global
level and divert attention from the Haliburton scam which rocked
his regime’’, the
officer said.
He continued:”Now see the revelations
coming from the BPE probe. You know people have been calling for
Obasanjo to give account. And all of a sudden he is picking
quarrels with IBB over Babangida’s comments earlier. What did
Babangida say that Obasanjo did not say when IBB was in power?
Remember that interview OBJ granted to TELL when IBB was in
power where OBJ said if IBB told you good morning you should go
out to ascertain the time. The TELL interview was titled ‘IBB’s
Regime is A
Fraud’.So there was no
basis for OBJ to respond using the kind of language
he did when IBB recently
criticised his performance’’.The officer added that the only
plausible explanation is that OBJ is again seeking
to divert attention from
the rot being exposed at the BPE probe when his negative
conducts are being exposed, but it will
not work because people have seen through his plans.
‘I will advise IBB to ensure that he
responds effectively to Obasanjo henceforth because the Ota
farmer has pretended to be a saint for too long.Let them speak
out in equal measure so that we know the truth.OBJ is not the
saint he likes to paint himself’’,the retired officer told
Newsdiaryonline
A day to IBB’s 70th birthday in
Minna Niger state, he reviewed the state of the nation and
concluded that ‘OBJ
is a failure’ in the light of recent revelations.OBJ responded
by saying ‘IBB is a fool at 70’.IBB also reacted by saying ‘OBJ
is a greater fool’.
