Nuhu Ribadu was at the National Hospital
Abuja today to sympathize with
victims of the Friday bomb blasts in
Abuja. He arrived at the the emergency
ward of the hospital at about 1.45pm and
was led into the ward
by some officials .Ribadu the ACN
presidential candidate greeted all
those in the ward including non victims
of the blast who were also on admission
.
After meeting the
victims Ribadu told reporters:``I think
time has come for us to really get
serious and change this country in a way
that we don’t have to be living with
this type of thing.Issue of security is
a challenge.Law enforcement must take
the responsibility,must do what is
right. Government must protect its
people'
It was learnt that he
came to the hospital from the family
residence of Tahir Ibrahim Biu one of
the people killed by the
bombs.Tahir was a staff of FFECC
who worked very closely with Ribadu when
he was EFCC chairman
At the hospital Ribadu
who is the presidential candidate on the
platform of ACN stated that
the issue of security remains a
challenge and government must rise up to
it.
Read Ribadu’s full
comments at the National hospital below:
``I am here and I have
seen the victims .It is sad,it is
tragic.These are innocent people.These
are people who don’t have anything to do
with what is going on.And I think those
who do have reasons to protest must
understand that people are out
there,innocent people that do not
derserve this,it is injustice, it is not
fair. They have made people orphans .They
have made people lose their own
children.They should also understand
that they have relations. They have made
people widows today with that act.
``I think violence
,violence will not in anyway take us
anywhere and they must learn from
history.They must learn from other
countries.Look at what has been
happening in Congo,up till now, nothing
with all the loss of lives,Rwanda, even
Somalia , at the end you will still come
back to square one,even Norhern
Ireland, they have fought for close to
thirty years,they have killed and
maimed. At the end they are all back to
where they started
talking.It
is ability for you to seat down and
reason that could get us results.
``I think time has
come for them to understand that this
unnecessary, uncalled for,unjust,unfair
racts of violence they are visiting on
individuals who have nothing to do
withthis will not take us anywhere. It
has given us a terrible bad name. The day
we ought to be celebtrating 5o years of
our own independence, it has taken us
back
``Though I can
understand, I can perfectly see reason
in the reason why people
somehow
disagree and want to show their won
displeasure with the way thins are,but
taking innocent lives is not the
answer.People have lost their lives and
they are also human beings. And they have
nothing to do with this. They are
innocent people.This is
injustice.Injustice to them, to their
own families and to Nigerians. Please let
them rethink their own position.
``(On Tahir)..I lost somebody,I lost a
staff of EFCC. One of the young
Nigerians that we took time to train and
an amazingly good chap,a young man with
promise
in his life who
got married not long ago with one
child,but very,very
much ready to contribute and make
Nigeria a better place.I know a chap who
is truly a Nigerian … who was desperate
to see
justice is done in our own
country;they have taken his life.And
that is a big minus for us for us.I have
suffered it, I
have really been in grief .. but
I have decided also to come and
see those people who are here to also
pray that we never see such a thing
again in our own country.
I think time has come for us to
really get serious and change this
country in a way that we don’t have to
be living with this type of thing.Issue
of security is a challenge.Law
enforcement must take the
responsibility,must do what is right.
Government must protect its people…..’’
