Why I want to Sack Oshiomhole-Edo Gov. Aspirant Idumonza

Newsdiaryonline Mon Aug 15,2011

Idumonza Isidahomhen, the Edo 2012 governorship aspirant on the platform of Hope Democratic Party, HDP, says his mission is to create a productive economy for the State through which meaningful employment could be generated. He recognizes the fact that, the heart of the State which goes with the slogan ‘The Heart Beat of the Nation’ is not beating. The urgency of the need to get Edo running effectively, efficiently, productively and  viably is  the motivation behind his joining the gubernatorial race to sack incumbent Governor  Adams Oshiomhole, who appears to have run out of modern ideas for transforming EdoState.

According  to a statement by Aigbogun Kennedy, head  of  media, Idumonza Campaign Organisation, the mission of HDP government, under Idumonza, therefore, is to transform and make the State the heartbeat of Nigerian economy through industrialization. As a business man with interest in different sectors of Nigerian economy, he recognizes the fact that the State can only move forward through industrialization.  Idumonza reckons that “Edo State is the poorest of all the States in Niger Delta and there is no indication that it would change in many years to come. It is also a civil servant State.

Unfortunately, the government is over tasking the civil servants in an attempt to generate more money. But that is not the right thing to do. Government like the one in Lagos State generates its money internally from productive and other business activities that abound in the State. But none exists in Edo State. There are no industries in Edo. Then how do you generate employment? How do you stop prostitution that has become the State’s second name? Robbery incidence is on the increase because the graduates don’t have anything to do. Banks have closed down in major towns of the State because of the unending robbery attacks. The future of about 5,000 graduates who were employed into civil service is bleak because they are casual employees who are not entitled to promotion and are not on any grade level. Nothing could be more dehumanizing”.

While maintaining that his administration is not coming to office unprepared, he noted that relevant business institutions within and outside Nigeria have indicated interest to move into Edo State “as soon as we take over because we gave them an insight into the strength of the domestic market in the State which the present government does not see. You know they are governing the State with expired ideas which must not be allowed beyond November 2012”

He noted that the issue of infrastructural development has been used in the past to deceive the people saying that it is the primary responsibility of any government to provide basic needs like security, road, water, school, health care delivery etc for the people. “So these are not things to be celebrated”.

He added that all these are built into our cardinal programmes “because when we say for the first time made- in- Edo State products will be exported out of Nigeria, you would of course know that good roads will be required to move those things including security and other essentials”

Hope Democratic Party, HDP, he says, is a national party with South South sympathy. The take-off from Edo, according to him, is in line with the tradition which makes Edo the gateway to the entire South South region right from Midwest creation in 1963.  HDP, he explains, is fashioned along South South interest just like what ACN is to South West, ANPP to the North and APGA to the East. Idumonza,41, who hails from Idumonza village in Esan Central Local Government Area, Edo State is into oil and gas, media, hospitality and corporate transport.
