Saraki declares total support for Jonathan
Newsdiaryonline  Tue Feb 22,2011

Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State Tuesday declared his total support and that of the people of the state for the presidential aspiration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Speaking at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign rally at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, while presenting the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Saraki told the mammoth crowd of party supporters to vote massively for the President during the April 9 poll.

Drawing the President’s attention to the massive crowd at the rally and throughout the streets of Ilorin, the governor said, “It is not what we say but what we do. You seen and heard the good people of Kwara declaring that we are fully in support of you. The entire people of the state are queuing behind you solidly.”

Explaining why he decided to support President Jonathan against whom he initially contested for the PDP presidential ticket, Governor Saraki said he believed that in politics, national interest and the unity of the country should come before personal  interest.

President Jonathan said from all he had seen in the massive turnout of party supporters and the assurance from Governor Saraki, he would rather than campaign, only appreciate the support of the state. He thanked PDP delegates who voted for him during the party’s national convention, while restating his personal friendship and good working relationship with Saraki, stressing that both of them would continue to remain friends.

Saraki hitherto contested the presidency  along with othet northern pro zoning aspirants who subjected themselves to a consensus arrangement that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.Saraki's swift shift of loyalty to Jonathan is bound remain as one of the interesting highpoints   of  the ongoing campaigns.
