The Honourable Minister of State for
Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Idi
Hong,
has received a 10 – Man Economic
Delegation led by the Ambassador of the
Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as they
kicked start the five – day economic
tour of some of the country’s Ministries
and agencies.
Dr. Idi Hong noted that Nigeria and
Saudi relations over the years have
recorded remarkable successes,
particularly at the cultural as well as
religious levels, pointing out that
these strong ties have, however, not
been matched by any meaningful economic
collaboration between the two countries,
which has necessitated the establishment
of Bilateral Economic Joint Commission.
He further noted that Nigeria’s request
for financial assistance from the Saudi
Fund for International Development for
the construction of two transmission
lines should be revisited, to enable the
project to commence.
Speaking in the same vein, the Saudi
Arabian Ambassador, His
Excellency,Khaled O. Abdrabuh, has also,
noted the large market of various
products in Nigeria and indeed West
Africa, as Saudis would be encouraged to
invest in areas like food processing,
packaging, textiles, light farming
equipment as well as pharmaceuticals.
The Envoy further noted Nigeria’s
reputation as the fastest growing
telecommunication market in Africa,
which qualifies her as an investor’s
destination, adding that Saudi investors
would apprise the existing investment
opportunities in that sector.
The 10 – Man Economic Team departs
Nigeria on Saturday, October 9, 2010.
