Reports from Lagos indicate that
fierce -looking soldiers
have taken over strategic positions
in the economic nerve
centre of the country.
Eye witnesses told Newsdiaryonline that
"soldiers carry out stop and search operations and if you
are caught with with any anti -subsidy pamphlet you are in
trouble.”. “I can tell you that militarymen are the ones
occupying the various places where protesters in Lagos had
gathered in the anti fuel subsidy rallies”one eyewitness said.
Some Lagosians say FG's decision to
draft soldiers onto the streets reminds them of the dark days of
military dictatorship.
Reports have however emerged of a
rally in Kaduna in defiance of heavy security
presence. The Kaduna rally addressed according to reports by
former Governor Alhaji Balarabe Musa and Comrade Shehu Sani was
equally in defiance of labour's directive urging Nigerians to
sit at home.
