Nigerians are responding to the Save Our Soul call by the
Childhood Cancer Foundation,CCF Chairperson,Mrs Alice Ada Bisong
for Nigerians to support the numerous kids down with Cancer at
the National Hospital Abuja.
Recently Smile Initiative, a Group of 30 young Nigerians who
still depend on their parents while some are working came
together and raised N20,000 which they gave to Simon Tsumu ,10
year old Adamawa boy, suffereing from Rabdomyosarcoma a type of
cancer that has gotten to its 5th stage affecting his
lungs,brain,eyes and the brain.
The spokes person of the Group Chinedu Ezie and Yvonne Ezie,
said it’s important for young persons to get involved early in
charitable acts as our wealth is of no use if we cannot share it
with the less privileged
Further investigation revealed that Tsumu requires N345,500 to
buy the 500ml drugs for his chemotherapy and this can last only
for two dose and the nurse explained that he needs this as
regular as twice a week because of his present relapsed
condition.
The Smile Initiative members who came explained that
they believe in putting smiles on the faces of young
persons in Nigeria hence the visit to the National Hospital.
They promised to raise more funds for the upkeep of Tsumu.
The importance of the visit according to Mrs Bisong the
Chairperson CCF, "is that these young persons saw a need and
took the lead by coming on very short notice to donate. This
means if they are in position of authority or policy they would
do a lot to support such indigent kids" she declared.
She said her experience so far is why CCF has decided to
organise a very huge awareness campaign in November 2011 to
sensitize people on early detection on and prevention. According
to her , a lot of people are ignorant about so many things. “ We
will bring in experts to speak on this. I call on all Nigerians
to support this awareness campaign for my people perish for lack
of knowledge.”
She reminded Nigerians of the state of Iliya,8 and Elijah,14 who
both require urgent medical attention in India for Heart and
Kidney transplant respectively. She said " I believe Nigerians
will not let them die we are already getting responses from all
over the country while fresh cases have continued to flow in. We
need to urgently fly this kids to India to save them'" she
declared.
