     NEPU-PRP ‘Star’:
Can Aminu Kano’s Children Strike Again?

Comments on  ongoing fuel subsidy By  Rosemary Effiong  Posted Tue Jan 10,2012

I am in support of oil Subsidy removal. The Federal Government (FG) should reach an agreement with States and Local Governments if they have not done  so. Let States and Local Governments develop their plan of Action of their respective States in line with their needs to support the FG proposed plan on the Subsidy agenda. For proper monitoring of subsidy removal regime and its benefits.

Secondly, I am not in support of BLANKET additional funds to States without clear direction where our resources are going to. Some States have not been able to account for funds drawn from Federation Account apart from salaries paid to Civil servants. States should channel more funds to Community Social Development Projects for direct impact on the masses.

Thirdly, Labour Union, Civil Society Groups and other Interest Groups should use or utilize same enthusiasm used to hold Federal Government to revert pump price of petrol to sixty-five naira and hold States Government to accountable for resources/funds accrued to States from federation account and that of the subsidy account as well.

Finally, I urge the Mr. President, to convene an Anti-graft summit to find lasting ways to handle corruption. This is the demand from Nigerians, deal with corruption every other thing will take shape. All we need is good Governance and corruption will be taken care of.
