Northern delegates will support Jonathan massively-Tafida, Balat…as the president’s campaign  kicks off

By Danlami Nmodu/Abuja       Newsdiaryonline    Frid Sep 17,2010

The Director General of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organization ,Dalhatu Sarki Tafida has said that the Northern support for President Goodluck Jonathan will be massive.Though he stopped short of mentioning names, he said encouraging pledges of support keep coming  in from political bigwigs including governors from  the northern states of the federation. He said he was certain the president would win the support of at least 50% of PDP delegates from the North.Jonahan has no problems with PDP primaries, Tafida said.

But Senator Isaiah Balat, a member of the of Jonathan’s Presidential campaign committee said the DG was being conservative with figures.Balat said the president would conveniently win two thirds of the PDP delegates from the Northern states during the PDP primaries. The former senator who is a presidential aide now said Jonathan has been accepted in the North and he is the man to beat. He described the PDP race as between Jonathan and others

Asked whether the campaign organization was thinking of the prospect of losing, Tafida  said in politics every aspirants imagines  it is possible to lose.He however added  that  though anything could happy, he was very optimistic Jonathan will carry the day.

Tafida who is Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom told journalists at  Transcorp  Hilton , Abuja today that he is on leave  to carry out his assignment as DG of the presidential campaign.

He described Jonathan as highly experienced, fair minded, quiet but decisive and hardworking president. He said it is only somebody who wants to be fair that would appoint Professor Attahiru Jega and other members into INEC.Perhaps in an attempt to appeal to  those who insist that Jonathan should step down for northerners, he urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of give and take.
