Jonathan suspends minister of interior

“President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered the immediate
suspension of Capt. Emmenuel Iheanacho as Minister of Interior
and member of the Federal Executive Council'', a statement by
Ima Niboro the presidential spokesman said today.
Niboro said
that Capt. Iheanacho has been directed to hand over to the
Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka Wogu who will double as the
Minister of Labour meanwhile.
The official statement said that
Iheanacho’s suspension comes on the heels of several
lapses in the political leadership of the ministry traceable to
his personal and official conduct.
No further details have been provided.But
this suspension has come in the midst of growing violence
in the north after the presidential election .
The suspension also comes a day after the president was
formally declared winner of the election.Whether this move
is an indication to serving ministers that it will no longer be
business as usual remains to be seen.
