The Political Witchhunt Of
Tinubu
Press statement
Friday Sep 23,2011

Tinubu in the dock
The
Coalition of Youths Against Corruption (COYAC) after critical
assessment of the political scenario, sheer use of political
power and particularly the trial of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
and as a foremost anti-corruption crusader in the country
decided to issue the following statements:
1.
The
trial is uncalled for, diversionary, unmerited, inconsequential,
politically motivated and trumped up by enemies of good
governance of the present Administration of President Goodluck
Jonathan and the progressives in Nigeria. This gambit is to
coarse, harass, intimidated and silence the voice of reasoning
into oblivion and submission thereby killing the majority voice
of the opposition and progressive politics at whatever cost.
2.
The trial is
indeed suspect and the timing and Nigerians are indeed
suspicious considering the fact that it is anti-people,
unpopular and undemocratic. When a lot of political cases are
still pending at the various law courts, tribunals coupled with
the security situation of the country.
3.
COYAC is of the view that at this time of our nation’s history
government should focus on what should bring us closer together
as a nation rather than what divides us particularly when
Asiwaju is credited to have served the southwest meritoriously
with Lagos State as a model for others to emulate after years of
leaving office.
4.
COYAC is hereby
calling on the presidency not to allow itself to be used by
enemies of the present government to derail the legacy it will
be leaving behind by hounding the apostle of progressive
politics in Nigeria, stressing that the time is indeed wrong and
it will be seen in many quarters by the international community
as going back to the dark days.
5.
COYAC having gone through all the ramifications therefore, urges
the Code of Conduct Tribunal to note that we pass a vote of
confidence on President Goodluck Jonathan and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed
Tinubu and wishes to state categorically, without mincing words
that its indices and assessment of corruption spread all over
the country did not capture the theme of the trial and that they
should allow the sleeping dog lie by treating the allegations
with caution and in good faith as Nigeria does not need this
distraction at this time in our nation’s history. We are of the
view that what we need now is peaceful co-existence and good
governance. Enough is enough. The present government should move
ahead with its transformation policy.
