Newsdiaryonline Sat Jan14,2012

A meeting of the National Executive Committee ,NEC of the Trade Union Congress which includes the very influential PENGASSAN  ended in Abuja this evening before labour resumed  talks with government .Newsdiaryonline learnt that the TUC NEC insisted  government should revert to N65 per litre before any negotiation  over the ongoing subsidy strike. An insider said “TUC NEC just decided that government should reverse to N65  per litre before any negotiation’’

So as the labour leaders begin another round of meeting with government representatives, the mandate to labour leaders is for the regime to go back to the status quo ante.A meeting at the presidential villa has commenced this evening with members of the executive, leaders of national assembly and some governors in attendance.Abdulwaheed Omar ,President  NLC and Peter Esele president  TUC are  leading the  labour delegation.TUC leaders in fact left the NEC meeting to join the talks going on in the presidential villa, Abuja.

The meeting comes just as the International Trade Union Congress has expressed support for labour. An official of the ITUC who spoke with Newsdiaryonline today urged President Goodluck Jonathan to respect the wishes of Nigerians.Meeting the needs of people  by reverting to N65 per litre is not a sign of weakness, he said.He added that Nigeria is very important to the African continent.Other African countries look up to Nigeria, the official said.
