UK Pledges
Support For EFCC

The British government has pledged greater cooperation and support for the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC to enable it surmount current challenges in the anti- graft efforts in Nigeria.
The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Giles Lever made the pledge on Thursday December
1, 2011 while on a courtesy visit to the Acting Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde.
The envoy, while congratulating the new EFCC boss on his recent appointment, said his visit underscores
the importance which the British government place on the work of the Commission. He said his government
looks forward to sustaining the level of cooperation between the EFCC and
UK law enforcement agencies and promise greater support for the agency in the coming months.
Welcoming the visitors to his office, Mr. Lamorde thanked the envoy for his visit. He noted that the EFCC
has over the years enjoyed the support of the British government in the execution of its mandate, but pleaded
for more support to enable the Commission overcome current challenges.
The EFCC has a history of cooperation with the Metropolitan Police and the UK Serious Organized Crime Agency.
Mr. Lever who was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Hooman, Senior Political Officer, is the first envoy to visit
Lamorde since he assumed office on Monday November 28, 2011.
