A chieftain of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Amb. Sen. Ladan Abdullahi Shuni has reaffirmed that the position of the northern group remains solidly unchanged in support of the constitution. He believes  that in the face of   unresolved crisis surrounding the vacuum in Aso Rock ,the constitutional provisions in this respect must be applied to save the nation from trouble.

Amb. Shuni, the Dan Masanin Sokoto who is the vice chairman, Board of Trustee (BOT), ACF told Newsdiaryonline in an exclusive interview that to resolve the crisis in which we now found ourselves as a result of president Yar'adua's ill health and subsequent absense, "the constitutional provisions must be applied".

The ACF Board chairman spoke to our correspondent shortly after the joint meeting of Board of Trustee and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of ACF which took place under his chairmanship in Kaduna Wednesday to delibrate on issues of national importance.

According to him "on the issue of Goodluck Jonathan and the office of president, the position of ACF is that the constitution must be followed rigidly. Anything done outside the constitution is going to be bad for the country".

He decried the prolonged argument and reminded that "the constitutional provisions - section 144 and 145 are the relevant sections that could deal with the situation so far as ACF is concerned".

The chairman retorted that though "ACF is not a political organization but a social and cultural organization, it advises people, politicians, the legislature and the executive" for good governance.

Thus, "whatever you see ACF doing is within the constitutional frame work of Nigerian polity. So we are not going outside the constitution. we support the constitutional provision for any succession".

He stressed that "the issue is a constitutional arrangement, therefore if the constitution is applied there will be no problem but once we Nigerians push aside constitution, then we are actually going no where, we are going to have more problems. So let us follow the constitution", he strongly advised believing that "we will get everythings resolved if constitution is applied. This is our stand in ACF". Shuni remarked.
