Minimum wage:NLC to commence warning strike
July 20 Newsdiaryonline Wed July 12,2011

The Nigeria Labour Congress ,NLC has announced
that it would commence a three- day warning strike on July
20 to protest the non -implementation of the N18,000 minimum
wage. Though the minimum wage has been signed into law
there has been conflicting signals about its implementation.
Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar,the NLC President
said yesterday that:“Even
the federal government has also fallen foul of the Minimum Wage
Law; the attempted decision by the federal government to make
the new national minimum wage implementation applicable only to
workers on Grade Level 01 to 06 in the federal service is not
acceptable to us.
“We observed that the national minimum wage has a national
applicability and affects all workers irrespective of sector or
grade level. Therefore, both the payment table and the
implementation circular presented by the federal government are
rejected by the
Congress.”
An indefinite strike may follow afterwards if there
is no positive response from government on the wage issue.
